Start a quote and estimate reply service for trades and freelancers with AI and USD 0

Short answer: Plumbers, electricians, cleaners, tutors and designers lose jobs when a lead asks “how much?” and gets a vague or late answer. You can offer to turn each owner's own price sheet into clear, fast quote messages: what is included, what is not, the price or range, timing and one next step. You draft with a free chat assistant (ChatGPT or Claude), the owner sets every number and sends the message. Your value is speed, clarity and never inventing a price. Tool facts come from the Whichora directory, checked 2026-10-16.

Who this fits

People who write clearly and like numbers: former office or sales staff, students helping a family trade business, and freelancers who already answer client messages and want a small monthly service that trades owners understand right away.

Step 1. Write the offer (30 minutes)

One monthly package, one price. For example: a one-page price sheet built with the owner, a set of reusable quote templates for their five most common jobs, and drafts for new “how much?” messages within an agreed time (for example the same working day). The owner approves every number before anything is sent.

Ask the assistant: “Rewrite this offer so a busy electrician understands it in 10 seconds: [your offer]. Friendly, short, no promises of more jobs or income.” Then edit it by hand.

Step 2. The process for each client

  1. Build the price sheet. Sit with the owner once and write down their real numbers: call-out or minimum charge, hourly or per-job rates, what materials cost extra, travel areas, payment methods and how long a quote stays valid. The owner writes or confirms every figure.
  2. Collect the job. From each lead, get what is needed, where, by when, and a photo if it helps. Remove the customer's name and phone number before pasting anything into an AI account.
  3. Draft the quote. Paste the job and the price sheet: “Write a short quote message from the owner. Include what the job includes, what it does not include, the price or range using only numbers from the sheet, what could change the price, the earliest start date and one next step. If a number or fact is missing, write [ASK OWNER]. No discounts or guarantees.”
  4. Owner approves. Send drafts to the owner in one message. Only approved text is sent, from the owner's own WhatsApp, email or phone. Never ask for their password.
  5. Follow up once. If the lead goes quiet, draft one polite follow-up two or three days later for the owner to send. One, not five.
  6. Report. Once a month, send three lines: quotes sent, quotes accepted, and the question leads ask most. That note is what keeps clients paying, and it shows the owner where their price sheet is unclear.

Do not paste customers' phone numbers, full names or addresses into a free AI account; remove them first. Free limits change. Do not pay for any tool until paying clients make it worth it. Compare assistants in Claude vs ChatGPT. If the owner uses the WhatsApp Business app, saved templates can live there as quick replies; see the WhatsApp Business catalog service guide.

Step 3. Your first 5 clients

  1. Two practice clients. Offer a free month to two trades or freelancers you know, in exchange for honest feedback and permission to describe the work (not their customers or prices).
  2. Look for the problem. Ask owners one question: “How long does it take you to answer a ‘how much?’ message?” The ones who say “days” or “I forget” already feel it.
  3. One simple message. “Hi, I'm [name]. I help trades and freelancers answer price questions fast and clearly, drafting with AI tools and using only your own prices. You approve every quote before it goes out. [price] a month. Want me to turn your last three price questions into clear quotes so you can see?”
  4. Count. Write down asks, replies, clients and money in. After 5 clients, keep, change or drop the offer.

FAQ

Can I start a quote reply service with no money?
Yes. A free ChatGPT or Claude plan is enough to draft quote messages, and the owner sends them from their own WhatsApp, email or phone. Free limits change, so check each official pricing page before relying on them.

Who sets the prices in the quote?
The owner, always. You turn their price sheet, minimum charge and rules into a clear message. If a number is not on their sheet, the draft says [ASK OWNER] and goes back to them. You never guess, round or discount a price.

What should a good quote message include?
What the job includes, what it does not include, the price or price range from the owner's sheet, what could change the price, when the work can start, how long the quote is valid and one clear next step, such as booking a visit or sending a photo.

Is this tax, legal or pricing advice?
No. You draft messages from the owner's own numbers and rules. Taxes, invoices, contracts, deposits and warranties are the owner's decisions; point them to an accountant or local rules when those come up.
