Start a review reply and customer message service for local shops with AI and USD 0

Short answer: Many cafés, salons, garages and clinics leave reviews unanswered and repeat the same answers on WhatsApp and Instagram all day. You can offer to draft polite, specific replies to their reviews and a saved set of answers to their top questions, using a free chat assistant (ChatGPT or Claude). The owner approves, and posts or lets you post through the platform's own access tools. Your value is speed, tone and never inventing facts. Tool facts come from the Whichora directory, checked 2026-10-16.

Who this fits

People who write calmly and like helping customers: former shop, call-centre or reception staff, students who answer messages for a family business, and freelancers who want a small monthly service that local owners understand right away.

Step 1. Write the offer (30 minutes)

One monthly package, one price. For example: replies drafted for every new review on the agreed platforms within two working days, a saved set of 15 answers to the shop's most common questions (hours, prices, booking, delivery, parking), and a short monthly note of what customers praise and complain about. The owner approves before anything is posted.

Ask the assistant: “Rewrite this offer so a busy salon owner understands it in 10 seconds: [your offer]. Friendly, short, no promises of more stars, customers or sales.” Then edit it by hand.

Step 2. The process for each client

  1. Collect. Get the shop's real facts in one note: hours, services and prices, booking and refund policy, address and parking, how to contact the owner. Agree on the tone (formal or warm) and the owner's name or sign-off.
  2. Draft replies. Paste one review and the facts note: “Write a short, polite reply from the owner to this review. Thank them, mention one specific thing they said, and use only facts from the note. Do not offer refunds, discounts or promises. If a fact is missing, write [ASK OWNER].”
  3. Sort complaints. Anything about money, refunds, injury, health, safety, staff conduct or legal threats goes to the owner untouched, with a calm draft they may use or ignore. You never decide those.
  4. Build saved answers. List the 15 questions customers ask most and draft one short answer each from the facts note. The owner checks every line, then saves them as quick replies in the WhatsApp Business app or as saved replies where the platform offers them.
  5. Get approval. Send drafts in one message a day. Only approved text is posted, by the owner or through access they grant you with the platform's own manager or team features. Never ask for their password.
  6. Report. Once a month, send three lines: reviews answered, the most common praise, the most common complaint. That note is what keeps clients paying.

Step 3. Your first 5 clients

  1. Two practice clients. Offer a free month to two shops you know, in exchange for honest feedback and permission to describe the work (not the customers).
  2. Look for gaps. Search local businesses on maps and note the ones with many recent reviews and few or no replies. Those owners already feel the problem.
  3. One simple message. “Hi, I'm [name]. I help local shops answer reviews and customer messages, drafting with AI tools and checking every fact myself. You approve everything before it's posted. [price] a month for [platforms]. Want me to draft replies to your last five reviews so you can see?”
  4. Count. Write down asks, replies, clients and money in. After 5 clients, keep, change or drop the offer.

FAQ

Can I start a review reply service with no money?
Yes. A free ChatGPT or Claude plan is enough to draft replies, and the owner posts them from their own Google Business Profile, Instagram or WhatsApp Business app, or gives you access through the platform's own manager or team features. Free limits change, so check each official pricing page.

Who writes the final reply?
You draft, the owner approves. Early on, send every draft for approval. Later the owner can approve simple thank-you replies in advance, but complaints, refunds and anything about health, safety or money always go to the owner first.

Can I write reviews for my clients?
No. Never write, buy or swap reviews, and never ask only happy customers to leave them. Fake or incentivised reviews break platform rules and can be illegal in many countries. Your job is replying to real reviews and messages, and asking all customers fairly for feedback.

What should a monthly package include?
Replies to new reviews within an agreed time (for example two working days), a saved set of answers to the shop's top questions, and a short monthly note of common complaints and praise. State the platforms, the response time and who approves before the client pays.
