Start a WhatsApp Business catalog and quick-replies setup service with AI and USD 0

Short answer: Home cooks, craft makers, resellers and small shops already sell on WhatsApp, but many answer every “price?” and “do you deliver?” by hand and lose orders when they are busy. You can set up the free WhatsApp Business app for them: a catalog with their products, a greeting and an away message, a set of quick replies and a simple order script, all written with a free chat assistant (ChatGPT or Claude) and approved by the owner. Your value is a tidy shop inside the app they already use, done in one afternoon. Feature facts below come from WhatsApp's official help pages, checked 2026-10-16.

Who this fits

People who are good with phones and patient with owners: young people looking for a first income, someone reinventing after a layoff, and freelancers who already help local shops with menus and flyers, bookings or Google Business Profiles and want one more service to offer.

Step 1. Write the offer (30 minutes)

One setup package, one price. For example: up to 15 products in the catalog with photos, names, short descriptions and the owner's prices; one greeting message, one away message on the owner's hours; up to 10 quick replies (prices, delivery areas, payment methods, order confirmation, “sold out, want a reminder?”); labels for new, paid and delivered orders; and a 15-minute handover. Optional small monthly fee to update products and prices.

Ask the assistant: “Rewrite this offer so a busy home cook understands it in 10 seconds: [your offer]. Friendly, short, no promises of more sales or customers.” Then edit it by hand.

Step 2. The process for each client

  1. Collect. Get the real facts in one note: every product with its price, size or variants, what is in it (allergens for food), delivery or pick-up areas and costs, payment methods, opening hours, and how orders are confirmed. Agree on tone and emojis. Take clear photos in daylight on a plain background.
  2. Check the products are allowed. WhatsApp limits what can be sold with its commerce features. Ask the owner to read the official WhatsApp Business policy (it includes the Commerce Policy). If anything is unclear, the owner decides; you do not give legal advice.
  3. Draft the texts. Paste the facts note: “Write, from the owner: a catalog description of under 30 words for each product, a greeting message, an away message, and quick replies for price list, delivery areas, payment methods, order confirmation and sold out. Use only facts from the note. No discounts, health claims or delivery times unless the note states them. If a fact is missing, write [ASK OWNER].” Then ask the other assistant to check every price and claim against the note.
  4. Get approval. The owner reads and changes every line and every price. Only approved text goes into the app.
  5. Set it up on the owner's phone, with them. Add the catalog items, turn on the greeting message (it sends when someone messages for the first time or after 14 days without messages, and the owner picks who gets it), schedule the away message (Always, Custom, or Outside business hours, which needs business hours in the profile), save the quick replies and create labels. Never ask for their passwords or verification codes.
  6. Hand over. Show them how to type / in a chat to send a quick reply, how to share a catalog item, and how to update a price. Give them a copy of every approved text outside WhatsApp, because deleted quick replies cannot be recovered.
  7. Check after two weeks. Ask three questions: which questions customers still ask by hand, which product needs a better photo or description, and which reply needs changing. That short check is what earns a monthly upkeep fee.

Do not paste customers' names or phone numbers into a free AI account; work only from the owner's product facts. App features change, so check the official help pages before you promise anything.

Step 3. Your first 5 clients

  1. Two practice clients. Offer a free setup to two people you know who sell on WhatsApp (a home baker, a reseller, a craft maker) in exchange for honest feedback and permission to describe the work.
  2. Look for the signal. Sellers whose posts say “DM for prices” or “order by WhatsApp”, and who answer the same questions again and again, already feel the problem.
  3. One simple message. “Hi, I'm [name]. I set up WhatsApp Business catalogs and automatic greeting, away and quick-reply messages for small sellers, written with AI tools and checked with you line by line. You approve everything. [price] for the setup. Want me to show you how your catalog could look?”
  4. Count. Write down asks, replies, clients and money in. After 5 clients, keep, change or drop the offer.

Honesty checklist

FAQ

Can I start a WhatsApp Business setup service with no money?
Yes. WhatsApp says the WhatsApp Business app is free to download for small businesses, and it includes a catalog, greeting and away messages, quick replies and labels. A free ChatGPT or Claude plan drafts the product descriptions and messages. Features change, so check the official WhatsApp help pages.

How many quick replies can a WhatsApp Business account save?
Up to 50, per WhatsApp's help page. They can include images or videos on the phone app (media is not supported in quick replies on WhatsApp Web or Desktop), and you send one by typing / in a chat. Deleted quick replies cannot be recovered, so keep a copy of the approved texts outside WhatsApp.

When does the greeting message send?
WhatsApp sends it automatically when a customer messages the business for the first time or after 14 days with no messages, and the owner chooses who receives it. WhatsApp also says greeting messages are turned off automatically when Business AI is connected.

Can every product go in a WhatsApp catalog?
No. WhatsApp has a Commerce Policy that limits what can be sold with its commerce features, and some regulated goods are not allowed. The owner must read the official policy and decide; you do not give legal advice.
